Celebrating 25 Years

Celebrating 25 Years

FROM THE BEGINNING

Seeing a gap in the New Zealand running calendar, the Taupo Harrier Club came up with the idea of a mid-winter half marathon. And so it began, with Levenes (now Freedom) as naming sponsors until 2008 when Mizuno came on-board.

691 runners and walkers lined up on the Tongariro North Domain for the inaugural Taupo Half Marathon in 1994. Prize giving was held inside the GLC and hand written certificates were collected on the way out. When the event grew too big for the club to manage, the Taupo Half Marathon Society was formed to take over, with proceeds being distributed to young sports people of the Taupo District. Over $300,000 has been given out to date!

PHOTOS FROM THE ARCHIVES

In 2014 Total Sport was contracted to manage the event, bringing with them Hoka One One as the brand new naming sponsors, changing the events identity once again. A 5k and 10k option were added in 2014 and the first full off/on road Taupo Marathon beginning at Huka Falls included the following year.

The event has seen many changes over the years. From manual timing, result booklets and certificates posted out, to the introduction of electronic timings and results on line by the time you finish. With many course tweaks over the years, the turn around at 5 Mile Bay has moved very little from the end of the road. Event numbers peaked at over 4000 keen runners and walkers in 2005 making it the largest stand-alone Half Marathon event in the country.

All four seasons have turned up for the event – sometimes on the same day! And no one will ever forget the 2016 event when it began to snow – much to the delight of many (but not all) runners and walkers who said it only added to their event experience.

CELEBRATING OUR ALL TIME LEGENDS

In 2018 there will be 5 people on the start line, aiming to complete their 25th Taupo Half Marathon! We take our hats off to these “Absolute legends” who have turned up year after year since 1994.

Christine Ball

I began running in 1981 and switched to walking in 2005 as it was less wear and tear on my body.

My event highlight is walking the Half Marathon with my daughter three times as she carried the latest grandchild in a baby pack. My daughter was walking to get back into shape after childbirth. (We did this with Josh 2009, Bina 2012 and Kipp 2014).

I return year after year because it is always a well-organised event and it is a scenic enjoyable course.

My favourite motivation secret to getting out the door is to arrange to walk with a friend and also to join a walking/running club.

I feel very lucky to have enjoyed good health on the first Sunday/Saturday in August year after year.

Andy Bloomer

I began running when I was at school; over 50 years ago! The sports team coach recommended/required it. It was also in the days of Arthur Lydiard and running for basic fitness. That is still a major part of my reason for running (and biking): to keep up a basic level of fitness. The other is to get out into the lovely environment that we are in. I also need a goal to get me out training, so the Taupo Half Marathon in winter gets me out when it is darker and colder, followed by the Kinloch Half a month later. I also usually cycle Around the Lake, for much the same reason. I mountain bike reasonably regularly but do not have an event to aim for there. I time myself and that tells me whether I am keeping up the effort.

Having done all the Taupo Half Marathons is an added incentive to keep doing so. I have occasionally nudged holidays a week or so one way or another to ensure that I am in Taupo that weekend.

My swimming has dropped off so it is quite a while since I have entered a triathlon: I used to be a regular at the Taupo triathlon.

We are very fortunate in the place we live, to have fantastic tracks and scenery. Most of my road runs involve the Lake Walkway to a greater or less extent and off road runs include the Huka Falls track; both very beautiful tracks, even when the weather is not so good. Huka Falls track/the Rotary Ride is where I MTB too, as well as Craters and the tracks east and west of Kinloch and some of the other more distant, occasionally.

The Taupo Half Marathon is very well organised. At one stage there was a bit of a problem with congestion with slower walkers and runners all bunching up but that has been resolved.

Marion Fournier

Marion FournierI started walking when my favourite gym closed late 1993 and I didn’t fancy other options. A few months later I read about a new half marathon starting up so went along to the local sponsor to collect an entry form and training program and have since completed over 35 half marathons and one full marathon. I come back each year for the atmosphere, beautiful scenery, easy course and just to see how long I can keep doing it. Over the years I have walked in all weather conditions from frosty, icy roads and snow to pouring rain.

My highlight or greatest achievement along with the first event was in 2008 when I completing the event four weeks after finishing chemo and radiation treatments. While my time was not great making it to the finish line was something special and a real celebration.

Having a goal like completing a half marathon is the best motivation for getting me out there training on the cold dark winter mornings and having a hyperactive dog who needs to be walked helps too. Joining the Taupo Harrier Club and having that camaraderie is also good motivation.

The Beauty of Hiring a Superior Renovations Specialist

Home renovations in Auckland seem to be the order of the day. As the demand for Auckland homes in the private sector increases, the property prices in the city also rises. It has been reported that some areas in Auckland have seen a 25 per cent increase in property prices within the last two months alone. The reasons behind this quick demand for Auckland properties are varied and complex.

For internal home renovations, we have seen an upsurge in finance applications for home renovations. This indicates that many homeowners are viewing renovating their house as an opportunity driven by low interest rates currently offered by most banks. If you are looking at renovating or updating your home for the current year, there is no better time than now to consider renovating your home with financial assistance from your bank. With low interest rates, and other incentives offered by banks, you can reduce your home renovation costs to a significant degree.

Home renovations in Auckland can range from completely new renovations to small and subtle changes such as repainting. Regardless of the scale of your home renovation needs, there is a wide variety of ways to achieve the results you desire. The key is to get professional help and advice before you start renovating. Doing minor renovations on your own can be a very risky undertaking and is best left to professionals. While there are a number of tips to help you save money when renovating your home, if you do not approach a professional builder they may give you the wrong advice and cost you more money than you intended to spend.

If you are going to get a major facelift or renovations done to your home, it is best to stick to one plan. There are no room pieces that should be moved around at a later stage because you want to keep all of the interior and exterior renovations consistent. This will also help with planning and budgeting throughout the project. It will also make the renovation go faster and more smoothly. Budgeting for home renovation can be tricky, but if you stick to a firm plan, you will be able to easily keep up with the demands placed upon your home during the renovation process.

Small and subtle changes to your home are often enough to make it feel like a completely different house. For example, if you have a half bath, consider getting a new bathtub instead of converting an existing bathtub into a shower area. Small renovations, while they may not add much to the interior of the home, can really help with the feel of the house. Home renovations in general tend to add more rooms to an apartment than it originally did when it was built. Therefore, if you are going to renovate your home or have it done to increase the value, make sure that you get the renovations right the first time.

Asking your architect about the house extension potential of your home is a great way to get the ball rolling on your home renovation ideas. The architectural plans and design firm can work wonders for your home renovation ideas. If you don’t know who to call, simply pick one in your area and ask them about their professional experience with house extensions and architectural plans. Once you have a few name options, it’s easy to move forward with contacting architectural consultants and finding the right design professionals for the job. A superior renovations company should be able to create a design plan and architecture that will fit your needs perfectly.

It can be hard to know exactly how much renovations will cost, especially with so many different renovations going on all at once. Sometimes it’s best to take everything on the chin and start small with renovations that won’t take as long. Once you know what you have available in terms of funds and renovations, you will be better able to pick a design plan for the project and begin collecting renovation costs. Planning for the total cost of the project ahead of time will help with keeping things on track and not running into any nasty surprises once renovations are underway.

The beauty of hiring a superior renovations company is that they have the experience and knowledge to make sure that your renovations go smoothly and you’re pleased with the results. Don’t hire just anyone to do renovations. Get the best professional to do the job and you’ll find that your home improvement project will go by quickly. Take some time to compare the different companies in your area for a great selection of quality renovations.

How Dry Carpet Drying Services Improve Your Carpet

The phrase “dry carpet cleaning” generally refers to a method used to remove soil particles, grease, and other stubborn contaminants from a carpet. The process is usually achieved by vacuuming and/or using a dry foam cleaner. Dry carpet cleaning methods are becoming more popular with homeowners and carpet dealers alike. carpet drying techniques offer many benefits and advantages that justify the investment and include:

* Helps protect carpets from allergies Dry cleaning methods help reduce dust and pollen contamination, which can increase the frequency of allergic reactions and aggravate asthma symptoms. Carpets are breeding grounds for bacteria, mold, mildew and molds, all of which can promote the formation of irritants and allergens and create breathing difficulties for individuals. Vacuuming on its own cannot remove all the dirt and contaminants from a carpet. When you vacuum, you don’t get rid of soil particles that may have been embedded deep into the carpet fibers. Vacuuming removes these particles from the carpet, but it is unable to completely dry out the carpet and eliminate allergens and other contaminants.

* Helps prevent damage Carpet drying can actually prevent or minimize damage to your carpet. With regular vacuuming, it is impossible to completely remove all dirt from a carpet and dry it thoroughly. With the dry method, however, you can use a low moisture carpet shampoo to remove embedded dirt and other pollutants without damaging the carpet. This allows you to avoid having to vacuum often while maintaining optimal dryness and the ability to maintain the carpet at its most comfortable condition.

* Improves the life span of your carpet drying offers several benefits for your carpet that make dry cleaning more attractive than the standard method. Vacuum cleaning does not allow for the extraction of soil particles and dust from your carpet. The use of dry cleaning allows for the removal and replacement of these small pieces of debris. This improves the lifespan of your carpet by extending the amount of time between cleanings. It also prevents premature wear caused by the build up of dirt and grime.

* Increases air circulation Dry cleaning provides excellent air circulation. When carpet is cleaned with a dry product, the room is opened up to let the carpet dry. This increased air flow promotes faster drying. It also increases the rate at which dirt and grime are removed from the carpet. A well-cleaned carpet will not only look cleaner, it will smell fresher as well. The use of a dry carpet will prevent the growth of mildew and mold, which can cause health problems for your family members.

* Maintains longer carpet life The drying method used with a dry carpet does a great deal to preserve the life of the carpet. Dust particles are easily removed when they are removed from the surface of the carpet. The dry carpet does a great job in removing surface dust, which prolongs the life of the carpet. The lack of moisture also prevents mold and mildew from growing, which is yet another way it lengthens the life of your carpet.

* Increases safety around your home When you have a dry carpet, it is less likely that you will accidentally spill something on it. As moisture dries, dirt and grime do not accumulate in the carpet. When there is no moisture on the carpet, there is no way for those particles to become trapped. This is especially important if you have children or pets that spend a lot of time on the carpet, risking spillage and other hazards.

* Increases the beauty of your room When a carpet is cleaned with a dry carpet solution, the overall appearance of the room’s design is improved. The use of a dry carpet cleaner helps to improve the dyes and textures of your carpet. Dyes can fade colors when they are not properly cared for. Similarly, the smoothness of the carpet will be enhanced when the dirt and grime have been completely removed. Carpet drying machines dry the carpet to the highest standards so it looks like new. In addition, when you are finished cleaning the carpet, you will notice the improvement in the color of the room’s design.

A disadvantage of pre-finished laminate flooring is that it is unable to be refinished, sanded or polished.

Unfinished pieces of timber flooring NZ are fast becoming the most popular, practical and stylish way of installing a room in your home or building. You will find that unfinished pieces of timber flooring NZ are easy to work with and that they produce a professional finish, similar to that of the finished solid timber floors. If you want your wooden flooring to be aesthetically appealing, you could consider having it stained.

There is no need to polish or clean hardwood floors unless you really stain it yourself. Because it is such a durable material, it is often recommended for schools, offices and public areas. It can also be used on decks, porches, in front of fireplaces and in any part of the home. If you are looking to create a traditional or country feel to your decor, hardwood floors are the way to go.

As well as being used in the domestic sector, wood floors have become very popular in offices across New Zealand. If you are thinking about installing wooden flooring NZ in your workplace, it is essential to ensure that your sub-floor is in good condition. Regular inspection and maintenance are the key to keeping your wood floors in great condition for years. In addition, regular wiping with a damp cloth will prevent dirt, dust and debris from entering the seams and pockets in your flooring. Wood floors are durable and extremely beautiful, which makes them the ideal option for many home and building occupants.

Door Stops

A door stop is a small object that prevents a door from being opened by accident. They can be made from various materials, the most common being metal. Most are cast, with a flat back, though early examples were more rounded. Brass door stops were popular until the 1850s, and cast-iron ones became popular in the 1820s. These door stops are often engraved with handles, and they can be made from different materials, including earthenware and glass.

Wall-mounted door stops

Wall-mounted door stops are a great way to prevent banging of doors against the walls. They are easy to install and can be found in a variety of finishes, from satin brass to satin nickel. These accessories have a rubber buffer to prevent the doors from hitting the walls. A mechanical guarantee covers commercial and domestic use.

Wall-mounted door stops come with an adhesive back that can be installed on walls, cabinets, tubs, or other surfaces. Another option is a hinge mounted door stop. These are easy to install and provide protection without mounting on the wall. They’re perfect for bathrooms.

Floor-mounted door stops

Floor-mounted door stops are a fantastic way to prevent doors from banging into walls. Generally, they are 38mm in diameter and contain a circular rubber stopper to prevent the door from swinging. You should leave about 10-15cm of space between the door and the wall where the floor mounted stop will be placed. These stops are made from solid brass and are available in five different finishes to suit your home’s decor.

Floor-mounted door stops are usually installed on the floor next to a door and are heavier than the baseboard. They are ideal for doors that must be kept open for long periods of time.

Spring baseboard door stops

Spring baseboard door stops prevent doors from opening too far and damaging items in the area. These small door accessories are not as important as handles and knobs, but their presence can prevent the door from accidentally slamming against nearby items. Installing spring baseboard door stops is easy, as it only requires drilling a hole into the baseboard and placing the spring into the right position.

There are many types of door stops on the market. Some are adhesive, which means that they are attached directly to the wall. Others have a kick-down mechanism that keeps them from sticking out far from the wall. Other types of door stops are magnetic or rubber, and can be installed directly to the door itself.

Hook doorstop

A hook doorstop is a great option for holding open a door. It is made of durable cast brass with a rubber bumper to protect walls and doors. It also comes with an eyelet that goes into the bottom of the door. It is ideal for holding open a door for any length of time.

Hook doorstops can be used both indoors and outdoors. In addition to keeping doors open, they also add a nice decorative touch to a home.

Advantages of Leather Dog Collars

Leather dog collars have long been the epitome of style and class. There are plenty of choices out there, with options to suit just about every special pet. That being said, the choices can also be quite overwhelming. With your particular dog s needs in mind, however, these can help you narrow down your choices.

A leather collar is always a great choice. Premium dog collars are made using the finest quality leather available. They will last for a long time. Also, they provide exceptional strength and durability, as well as good appearance. This type of collar has many benefits, especially if you are looking for an item that will last a long time, while adding great appearance and strength.

The leather dog collar comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. The two most common are the flat buckle collar, and the rolo (rolled). The flat buckle is slightly more prone to snagging on runs, and with small pets. However, it’s also more comfortable for smaller, tighter pets. For larger dogs, a leather collar with a round buckle is more preferable, as it provides more protection and is more comfortable.

Consider your pet’s breed and size when choosing a leather dog collar. For small, medium, or large dogs, you’ll need to choose a proper fit. Some collars can fit over the head of the pup, creating a muzzle. This is not good for very young pups, as they can choke on the wind, and it may even cause injury. If you’re not sure what size you need, measure your pet by ear, using a guide. You should be able to get a close estimate of how large your new leather collar will be.

Another important consideration when buying a leather dog collar is durability and abrasion resistance. Most dogs love to play around, and pulling on their collars can often result in tears and nicks. Additionally, any abrasive agent can irritate the skin of your dog, causing redness and irritation. Some types of leather have substances such as suede included in their composition, which provide extra abrasion resistance. But beware: Many of these products contain ingredients that can cause allergic reactions in some dogs.

Padded leather dog collars are more comfortable and easier to wear. Moreover, some of them have an integrated comfort layer that keeps the dog insulated during cold weather. A third variety of padded collars has an inner lining that is made of quilted polyester. Although these types are more expensive, they are highly durable and also provide superior comfort.

Fourth, you might also want to consider style and color. Dog collars can come in a variety of colors and patterns. They are suitable for almost every kind of dog. Moreover, leather dog collars nowadays come in different styles and designs, such as decorative collars, engraved collars, studded collars, and even snap collars. You can easily find one that fits your needs.

Lastly, consider the material used to make your collar. There is no hard and fast rule concerning the material to use. The most recommended materials for a high quality leather dog collar are cowhide, crocodile, hemp, and nylon. However, many people prefer the look of genuine leather, so it is probably best to choose that if you really want a classy look for your pooch.

You might be asking yourself, “Why would I pay so much for a durable leather dog collar when I could just get a cheaper one that looks the same but is not nearly as durable?” Well, think about it. A cheap collar is not nearly as durable as one that is made from genuine leather. This way, you are getting something that is better for the environment as well as for your pet’s health.

On top of this, there are many benefits of choosing a buckle-style or a snap-style collar. First, these kinds of dog leather collars are often more comfortable. This is because the buckle or the snap may be closer to your pet’s neck, which ensures that it won’t rub against his neck. Additionally, these kinds of collars are more convenient since you can quickly put them on and take them off.

Last, consider the fact that a leather dog collar can also come with a nameplate. A nameplate is not only cute, but it is also an excellent way to ensure that your dog is identified in case it gets lost. It will also give your pet a place where he can be identified by other people. If he has a tag that is missing, replacing a nameplate is a good way to make sure that he knows who his real owner is.
